Crib Escape!

Yikes! Nathan climbed out of his crib for the first time today. Daddy put him in there so he can take a shower. Next thing you know, he hears these little footsteps come in to the bathroom! He put him back in the crib to watch him escape and sure enough he found out a way to cautiously drape his body over one side of the crib and let himself down like a little gymnist. I'm reading we shouldn't be rushing out to move him to a big bed because he may not be ready, but we're not sure what to do. We already have a twin bed in his room and we would need to buy the railings. Or maybe we can put the mattress on the floor to transition him? Any suggestions?

I was dreading these last days of freedom. It was so nice to plop him in the crib at night and be able to sleep without any worries. Now he'll probably be wandering around the house or his room if we lock it. I really hope he doesn't make any habit of coming into our room. The past couple of days he's been in the habit of undressing himself and stripping his diaper. Dan came in and found him completely naked with pee all over the floor and mattress the other day....he's not even close to potty training! Ugh....anybody also have any suggestions with potty seats? We've tried to put him on the big toilet with a little cushion for him, but he absolutely hates it and cries.

Oh my! 2 really hard stuff to go through. It's probably safer for Nathan to be in a bed especially if he is climbing out of it (he could get hurt). I've heard some parents transitioning from the bed on the floor to one on a frame later on. You could put the bed up against the wall and put safety guards on the open side of the bed. I'm think Nathan is old enough to know if he is told he has to stay in bed, he will? Maybe some type of reward he would love would help too. Like, if he stays in bed for so many nights then he can go to the zoo... something like that.

Maybe Nathan is not too young to start potty training. I think if he is able to take off his diaper and stuff, he is probably ready to potty train. The big toilet might be scary for him even with the little potty seat. Try buying the small potty. Maybe he doesn't like sitting on the potty. You could try and teach him to pee standing up. I remember someone telling me that. You could also do a reward system for this too.

Good luck! I do not look forward to the day we have to do both of these things with Caleb.

I hear about little kids climbing out of their cribs. My girls... they're always afraid so they'll be calling and calling. I recommend the toddler beds. I got one for E at Ikea and she loves it. J wants one now.

I also recommend starting out on those little potties. It's less intimidating. They even come with little cups for boys so that they don't spray on the floor when he's sitting on the potty. hmmm how do you train a boy...

Let us know how it goes...
