Trekkie?

Somehow I've managed to not see any of the Star Trek movies or TV series. I don't know why because I do like Sci Fi, but I guess I just didn't want to add another TV show to my list. But because they're making a new Star Trek movie, I decided to go ahead and for the past 2-3 weeks I watched all 10 movies from our local library (for you Heroes fan, the guy who plays Sylar will be playing the younger version of Spock). Since Dan is a "Trekkie" and watched all the TV series, he watched all the movies with me and played "consultant" for me to explain things and fill in the gaps. I have to say I'm glad I watched them in order. The first one was so slow moving compared to the later ones with Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard). My least favorite would have to be the fifth one, "The Final Frontier" which happened to be directed by William Shatner. It had potential, but the storyline was so weak. My favorites are the "Wrath of Khan" and I really enjoyed all the ones with Captain Picard (the 7th through the 10th). And the music is great too, which of course I have on my iPod. I can't wait to see the new movie where they'll show what happened before the 1960's series when Spock was young. It'll be great to see Leonard Nimoy playing the older Spock too. I haven't watched any of the TV series, so I guess I'm not considered a true "Trekkie" yet like Dan!

Future Pianist?

At the toy store trying out the baby piano. He loves playing on my piano at home, but he loved this one because his feet could touch the floor! However, we didn't buy this. I'm just going to continue to encourage him to play on the big piano...I vowed I won't be one of those parents who force their kids to do what they don't want. I don't want him to end up hating the piano because I forced him. But so far, he's very interested. :)

Sit on Potty!

For the first time last Thursday, Nathan peed in the toilet! Right before his bath, he always pulls off his own diaper. I noticed that his little "pee pee" was a little hard so I asked if he had to go pee. He nodded his head and said he wanted to sit on the big potty. So I put him on and about 30 seconds later, he peed! We were so happy. Then yesterday Dan reported that Nathan wanted to sit on the potty again and told Dan to leave and give him privacy! He gave him a magazine and a few minutes later he checked on him and saw some pee in the toilet. We're far from him being potty trained, but it's a great start. Previously he refused to sit on the big toilet so we bought a small one for him. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as we buy it he sits in it for 1 second with his clothes on, but didn't want to sit in it with his diaper off. He wanted to sit on the big toilet. We should have known since he's all about equal rights and always wants what we have.

Sorry for those of you who don't have kids....I never thought I would be so excited about somebody going to the bathroom until becoming a parent!

Here's a pic of Nathan with my parents from Father's Day:
